In this reimagined concept of the classic Greek tragedy, Medea is committed to a sanatorium for hysteria by her husband Jason so, that he can marry another woman. The head doctor of the hospital, Kreon is the father of Jason’s new fiancé and wishes to throw Medea out on the streets to starve. Medea devises a plan to save herself from ruin and to exact revenge on her enemies, but it will cost her something dear. Inspired by Freud and Charcot’s research on the hysteria epidemic; this production of The Medea explores the title character as a victim of a society that condemns female mental illness, but refuses to treat it. All proceeds from the production will go to Jenny’s Light, an organization that supports maternal mental health.
